NO ESCAPE

A royal wedding described as “escapist nonsense”. Blockbuster movies defined as escapist in the same breath as “infantile”. Politicians described as “fantasists” with policies derived from escapist fiction.

The word ‘escapism’ has become an insult, with commentators using it to define and dismiss elements of pop culture, and yet escapist media has never been more popular, with royal weddings, blockbuster movies and so-called “radical” politicians gaining massive popular support around the globe. Why?

No Escape argues that escapism is no longer just fantasy and sci-fi media but the radical belief that change can happen, escape is possible and emancipation is inevitable.
